The University of Oulu, a prestigious international research university, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position in the Breast Cancer Genetics team within the Translational Medicine Research Unit at the Faculty of Medicine and Biocenter Oulu. Our multidisciplinary community of around 17,000 individuals operates globally, fostering innovation and excellence in research and education.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will join the Breast Cancer Genetics team led by Professor Katri Pylkäs. This team focuses on identifying genetic risk factors for breast cancer and understanding the molecular mechanisms leading to cancer predisposition and progression. Research will involve large patient cohorts from the Northern Finnish population and utilize cutting-edge genomic technologies for genetic and functional analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct high-throughput genomics research (whole-exome/genome sequencing, optical genome mapping, transcriptomics, and long-read sequencing).
  • Perform molecular genetics laboratory work and bioinformatics data analysis.
  • Supervise and participate in laboratory work and collaboration projects.
  • Engage in supervision of doctoral researchers and contribute to the team’s multidisciplinary research efforts.

Who We Are Looking For:

  • A Doctoral degree in genetics, molecular genetics, bioinformatics, or a related field (degree required by January 1, 2025).
  • High motivation with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Solid knowledge and demonstrated experience in high-throughput genomic data analysis.
  • Proficiency in conducting molecular genetics laboratory work.
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in functional genomics and gene-editing.
  • High-quality scientific publications and previous supervision experience.
  • Ability to acquire research funding.

Salary and Employment Terms:

  • Fixed-term position for 3 years starting January 1, 2025 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
  • Salary based on levels 5-6 of the Finnish university teaching and research staff chart, with a starting gross salary of approximately 3600-4200 € per month.
  • 6-month trial period.
