Description

The C²DH is an interdisciplinary research center at the University of Luxembourg, dedicated to high-quality research and public dissemination in contemporary history with a special emphasis on digital methods and tools. The center focuses on exploring innovative ways to study, teach, and present the history of Luxembourg and Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries, serving as a hub for creative scholarship and public engagement.

Your Role

The Postdoctoral Researcher will join the Digital Research Infrastructure Unit at C²DH, collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary team of Research Scientists, IT specialists, developers, and designers. Key responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating methods to link historical data from various sources to reflect a deeper understanding of Luxembourg's past.
  • Developing strategies to curate and preserve both analogue and digital sources, including databases and large datasets.
  • Collaborating with projects like the Luxembourg Time Machine (LuxTIME) and the ‘Local Sources’ project in Dudelange.
  • Maintaining and expanding a network of external stakeholders, including archives, museums, libraries, and public administration within Luxembourg.
  • Providing training on digital methods and the analysis of contemporary Luxembourgish history to students and researchers.

Your Profile

  • Education: Ph.D. in history, digital humanities, cultural heritage, media studies, or a related field.
  • Experience: Working with diverse datasets, data preservation, and archiving strategies.
  • Skills: Strong organizational, methodological, and pragmatic approaches; ability to meet deadlines and work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and either French or German.
  • Outreach: Experience in public-facing work, training, or outreach related to research or technology.

Advantageous:

  • Digital literacy and experience in archival selection, curation, and preservation.
  • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., RawGraphs, Flourish).
  • Experience in coordinating interdisciplinary projects in the humanities.
  • Knowledge of Luxembourgish language.
  • Previous teaching experience.
