The Role

WISS is seeking an experienced and skilled Science Laboratory Technician to join our Secondary School team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in supporting the Science department’s practical teaching and maintaining the smooth operation of the laboratories. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the safety of the lab environment and provide technical support to teachers and students during experiments and practical sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Support: Prepare solutions, stains, media, and set-ups for lab sessions and classroom practicals. Deliver and collect materials to/from classrooms and ensure that equipment is cleaned and maintained after use.
  • Safety Management: Maintain and enforce safety protocols for chemical storage, handling, and disposal. Provide safety advice to teaching staff and maintain essential safety equipment.
  • Inventory & Equipment: Manage laboratory inventory, including chemicals, equipment, and supplies. Ensure all materials are available and in good condition for practical use.
  • Scientific Resources: Assist with the care of living organisms used for scientific purposes, including flora and fauna. Collect and maintain specimens and field samples for use in science classes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with science teachers to understand their practical needs and collaborate to create an efficient laboratory experience for students.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Science or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experience in a school laboratory environment, preferably in international education.
  • Languages: Proficiency in both spoken and written English and Chinese is essential.
  • Skills: Strong practical skills, attention to detail, knowledge of safety regulations, excellent communication, and organizational skills.
