Description

Purdue University is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Head of the Department of Health and Kinesiology (HK) at the West Lafayette campus. The department serves over 600 undergraduate students and 75 graduate students, with 24 full-time faculty specializing in biomechanics, motor control, exercise physiology, and sports psychology. The HK department also offers clinical tracks in sports medicine and clinical exercise physiology, alongside a growing graduate program, which includes a new Master of Science concentration in Sports Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster a culture of academic excellence while overseeing undergraduate and graduate curriculum development.
  • Lead faculty in research and innovation, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Oversee the department's fiscal management, student recruitment, alumni relations, and development of strategic goals.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the department and in external partnerships.

Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in Kinesiology or a related field.
  • Proven scholarly achievement and eligibility for a full professorship with tenure.
  • Strong track record of securing significant extramural funding.
  • Leadership experience in academic/scientific management and an ability to build effective teams.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and faculty mentorship.
