Position Overview:
The Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences at Youngstown State University (YSU) is seeking applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Plant Ecology. This position will begin in August 2025. We are looking for a scholar who will establish a competitive research program in plant ecology, focusing on population, community, or ecosystem levels. Candidates should demonstrate potential for securing external funding and exhibit a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.

Ideal candidates will integrate molecular biology or mathematics into their research, with a preference for those who utilize genomics, metabolomics, or mathematical approaches to study plant population and ecosystem dynamics. However, we welcome applications from individuals using diverse techniques in plant ecology and evolution.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and teach courses such as Plant Diversity, Field Botany, and upper-level courses in your area of expertise.
  • Serve as curator for the YSU Herbarium, if appropriate.
  • Lead an active research program that involves undergraduate and master’s students, with a clear plan for future student research projects.
  • Collaborate on research efforts within the department and with external organizations or institutions.
  • Participate in department and university service activities.

Qualifications:

  • Required: Ph.D. in Biology, Plant Ecology, or a closely related field.
  • Preferred:
    • Post-doctoral experience.
    • Research experience using modern molecular, genomic, or mathematical methods to study plant ecology.
    • Experience integrating fieldwork into teaching and research.
    • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and professional development.
