BACKGROUND
Purpose of Activity/ Assignment:
Building on work across the UN with and for young people, and in line with the UN Youth Strategy, UNICEF in 2018 launched Generation Unlimited (GenU), a new global Public-Private-Youth partnership dedicated to skilling and connecting young people, aged 10-24, to opportunities in employment and entrepreneurship.
To drive awareness and advocacy around the youth skills-to-opportunity gap and inspire action to better support the learning to earning journey of young people in a digital and green economy, GenU is seeking a graphic designer to produce high-quality materials including pre-reads for global meetings, pitch decks, proposals and key reports, graphics for social media packs, event materials and templates.
The designer will work closely with the team to support evolving needs, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality materials. Deliverables will be assigned based on priorities and upcoming requirements, with flexibility to adjust as necessary.
Scope of Work:
Under the supervision of the Communication Manager, the consultant will:
- Design Generation Unlimited reports and pre-read materials for global meetings, including images, infographics and multiple rounds of edits, ensuring brand-aligned, and high-quality final products.
- Develop graphics for social media packs, including adaptable templates for quote cards and other engagement-driven assets to improve digital outreach.
- Create visually engaging presentation decks incorporating high-quality imagery, custom graphics, and infographics to effectively communicate key messages.
- Conceptualize and design event branding materials, including event e-invites and backdrops for key global convenings of the Global Leadership Council, UNGA-week events, Global Incubation Week.
- Design brochures, infographics and short programme guides to distill complex information into visually compelling, accessible, and brand-aligned materials

Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in design, communications, marketing, innovation, social science or related field.
Language Proficiency:
- Fluency in English is required. knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset.
Work experience:
Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:
- At least 4 years of experience in graphic design, visual storytelling, and branding for international organisations.
- Experience developing visual assets for social and digital media, including infographics, social cards, and campaign materials.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and other relevant design tools.
- Strong understanding of design best practices for platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
- Ability to adapt designs for multiple formats and audiences, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines.
- Experience managing multiple priorities across teams and time zones.
- Strong attention to detail, including proofing visual content for accuracy, consistency, and quality.
Requirements:

- Financial proposal that will include/ reflect :
o the costs per each deliverable and the total lump-sum for the whole assignment (in US$) to undertake the terms of reference.
o travel costs and daily subsistence allowance, if internationally recruited or travel is required as per TOR.
o Any other estimated costs: visa, health insurance, and living costs as applicable.
o Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF.

- At the time the contract is awarded, the selected candidate must have in place current health insurance coverage.
- Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
U.S. Visa information:
With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouse) will require an Employment Authorization Card (EAD) to be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G4.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. The United Nations (UN) is a diplomatic and political international organization with the intended purpose of maintaining international peace and security, developing friendly relations among nations, achieving international cooperation, and serving as a center for coordinating the actions of member nations. It is widely recognized as the world's largest international organization. The UN is headquartered in New York City, in international territory with certain privileges extraterritorial to the United States, and the UN has other offices in Geneva, Nairobi, Vienna, and The Hague, where the International Court of Justice is headquartered at the Peace Palace.
The UN was established after World War II with the aim of preventing future world wars and succeeded the League of Nations, which was characterized as being ineffective. On 25 April 1945, 50 nations assembled in San Francisco, California, for a conference and initiated the drafting of the UN Charter, which was adopted on 25 June 1945. The charter took effect on 24 October 1945, when the UN began operations. The UN's objectives, as outlined by its charter, include maintaining international peace and security, protecting human rights, delivering humanitarian aid, promoting sustainable development, and upholding international law. At its founding, the UN had 51 member states; as of 2024, it has 193 sovereign states, nearly all of the world's recognized sovereign states.
The UN's mission to preserve world peace was complicated in its initial decades due in part to Cold War tensions that existed between the United States and Soviet Union and their respective allies. Its mission has included the provision of primarily unarmed military observers and lightly armed troops charged with primarily monitoring, reporting, and confidence-building roles. UN membership grew significantly following the widespread decolonization in the 1960s. Since then, 80 former colonies have gained independence, including 11 trust territories that had been monitored by the Trusteeship Council. By the 1970s, the UN's budget for economic and social development programs vastly exceeded its spending on peacekeeping.
