Postdoc Positions Related to Aging, Cancer, and Neurodegeneration
A postdoctoral position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Lizhen Chen at the University of Texas Health San Antonio. Dr. Chen’s lab focuses on highly interdisciplinary and collaborative scientific research in aging, cancer, and neurodegeneration. Selected candidates will work on one or more of the following projects, utilizing human cell lines, iPSCs, C. elegans, mouse models, and clinical samples:
1) Microtubule Dynamics and Aging
Microtubules (MTs) are essential cytoskeletal components involved in cell division, shaping the cell, and intracellular transport. MT regulation is critical for neuronal function, maintenance of neuronal structure, and may serve as a downstream indicator and effector in age-dependent neurodegeneration. The project aims to explore the effects of aging on MT organization and investigate whether manipulating neuronal microtubules can delay neuronal aging and promote longevity.
2) Enhancer Regulation in Cancer Progression and Neurodegeneration
Enhancers are non-coding DNA sequences that regulate gene expression by increasing transcription, often over long genomic distances. They are vital for the precise regulation of gene expression, particularly in complex tissues like the brain. Dysregulation of enhancers is associated with cancer development and neurodegenerative diseases. The project will investigate enhancer regulation and explore whether targeting enhancers could provide a therapeutic strategy for cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
The lab combines biochemical, cellular, imaging, and animal model approaches with next-generation sequencing (NGS) assays. Selected publications include:

This research program will provide strong expertise and training in genetics, molecular biology, and multi-omics (genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenomics, and metabolomics).
Requirements:

Degree in genetics, neuronal biology, biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, bioinformatics, or closely related biological sciences.

Prior experience is not required, but experience in molecular mechanism studies, C. elegans models, mouse models, neurobiology, and bioinformatics analyses will be valued.
